Bulky waste collections

Addition to bulky waste collections

To assist with the disposal of additional household waste the bulky waste collection can now accept household waste in black bags. The bulky waste collection costs £5 per item with a minimum 3 items or £15 charge, and maximum of seven items. Five black sacks will be classed as a single item, 10 black sacks as two items and 15 black sacks as three items up to seven items. Bulky waste collections can still be booked by calling 01753 475111 and selecting option 4. DIY waste and rubble can now be taken to the open Chalvey HWRC.

This special collection service is available for residents who wish to dispose of items that are too large or heavy to fit into your black bin.

Arrange a collection

To arrange a bulky waste collection, contact environmental services on 01753 475111 option 4.


With effect from 1 July 2018 charges for bulky waste collections will be £5 per item with a minimum charge of £15. A maximum of 7 items are allowed per collection.

Example of item units:

  • Table plus four chairs are five items .
  • Three piece suite are three items.
  • Bed base and mattress are 2 items.
  • Wardrobe is one item (bundle as one if dismantled or broken).

A free service is available for residents where the sole occupants are registered disabled or pensioners (limited to two per year per household).

Making payment

Please note we can now take debit and credit card payments over the telephone between 8am and 5pm.

Payment must be made prior to the day of collection, either by debit or credit card, cash, or cheque payable to Slough Borough Council.

If you are paying by post you will need to include details along with the cheque such as:

  • name and address for collection; 
  • contact telephone number;
  • items to be uplifted and day of collection of recycling and refuse, as this is the same day that the bulky uplift will be made.

Where to leave your items

On your refuse collection day, please leave your item(s) outside your property along with your refuse bins.

If you live in a flat or have any access issues, make sure you inform us of your circumstances. We will not be able to collect any items from inside your property.

Items we can collect

  • Fridges and freezers (max 2 items).
  • Cookers and microwaves.
  • Dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers.
  • Carpets and underlay.
  • Three piece suites, sofas and armchairs.
  • Wardrobes, chest of drawers, desks and TV cabinets.
  • Tables, chairs and dining room furniture (free standing).
  • Televisions, videos, computers, monitors and printers.
  • Vacuum cleaners.
  • Bed frames, headboards, mattresses and cots.
  • Bikes and exercise equipment.
  • Cots, prams and high chairs.
  • Glass topped tables and mirrors (make sure it is properly wrapped).
  • Garden furniture.

Items we do not collect

  • Domestic waste
  • Garden waste 
  • Hardcore and rubble
  • DIY materials
  • Bathroom suites
  • Water tanks
  • Fixtures and fittings (doors and windows etc)
  • House clearances
  • Clothing, fabrics or bags of miscellaneous items
  • Liquids, hazardous waste or gas cylinders
  • Sun beds
  • Sheds
  • Toys
  • Pianos
  • Cars
  • Asbestos

Other ways I can dispose of my bulky items

There are a number of ways that residents can dispose of bulky or other re-useable household items. These include:

  • donating to a local charity, the local community voluntary sector or local second hand shops;
  • selling items through free ads;
  • giving items to friends or relatives;
  • take items to your local household waste recycling centre;
  • use a private waste disposal company;
  • hire a skip from a private contractor.

NRS Healthcare

If you have any equipment supplied by the Berkshire Community Equipment Service (BCES), operated by NRS Healthcare, and no longer need it then please contact NRS Healthcare on 0844 8936 960 to arrange for its collection free of charge.

Collection of the equipment will be made within 10 days of you telephoning them and in most cases much sooner.

Or, if you are able, you can drop the items off at the address below (including Saturday mornings up to 1pm):

You can tell if the equipment you have is loaned to you by Berkshire or NRS as the equipment will have a label similar to the image on it.


Fly-tipping is a crime, which carries a maximum £50,000 fine at Magistrates Court and up to five years in prison and an unlimited fine at Crown Court.
